Story
"It will be great...", my sister said, "....walking 100km (or 62.137 miles, if you prefer the trusty, imperial measurement, in a Brexit type of way) in one day. Never done that before". "There is probably a reason for that...", I replied.
So here I am. Yes, as you can obviously guess Tracey talked me into it, just like she usually does. All I have to do is walk it. What could possibly go wrong?! I'm sure the organisers wont notice though if I bring a canoe or borrow my former manager's boat for the day (it looks similar to the "hovervan" that Jeremy Clarkson used on the Thames in an episode of Top Gear). Actually. I think I might stick to walking it, will be quicker...
Training, as usual, is going superbly well. Mainly consists of me, dancing the night away in some bar. Although, as I am getting on a bit now, you can only get away with dancing by yourself for so long. I have found though that bars with mirrorred panels on their walls are great. More than one of you then. Or, walking to the bus stop before and after work. Sticking with it though, especially when the bus is late. Such a trooper, I know, but these things are here to test us. Makes you stronger...
All that said, it would be massively remiss of me to neglect the main reason for doing this, which is in memory of my mother, Sylvia Rosalie, who is very sadly missed by my sister and I and the wonderful work that the British Lung Foundation do on a daily basis. From running a support line, local support groups and doing campaigns to create awareness, to conducting research, the British Lung Foundation strive to protect the lung health of those living in the UK.
