Brighton Half Marathon 2010 · 21 February 2010 ·

CWCF was set up in 1998 by Ursula & Chris Downton with Kirsty & James Denny. Now, with the help of other friends and family, we still go out having fun raising funds to grant wishes to families that live in East Sussex, Brighton & Hove and who have children that have been diagnosed with cancer.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Well, it was very wet and windy this morning but despite this I had a great run and achieved a personal best for my time. It was fantastic to see Carlos, Luis and family on the route cheering me on.

I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all your generous donations and warm wishes of support. I know the children and families like Carlos' who benefit from the CWCF would also like to say a huge thank you!

My page will remain open for another three months so please do not hesitate to make a donation when payday arrives or if you find some loose change down the back of the sofa after a spring clean! Please feel free to send my JustGiving page on to anyone else who you think might like to donate:

I decided to run the Brighton half marathon for the 'Children With Cancer Fund' after becoming aware of the vital role they play for a member of my class. Carlos was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia in February 2008, when he was just 9 years old. He is receiving regular chemotherapy which will continue until June 2011 and, as a result of this, he has lost his hair twice and often feels exhausted. If he gets an infection, he has to be admitted to hospital immediately for a course of IV antibiotics. It is therefore difficult for his family to plan anything. When he is able he enjoys coming to school and loves to go on days out. That's where Children with Cancer Fund (CWCF) help -they organise treats such as an annual trip to Drusillas Zoo, giving Carlos and his family the chance to meet others in the same situation. CWCF organise lots of things including pantomime trips, play equipment for the hospital and caravan holidays, so the cancer families can 'get away from it all' and spend quality family time together. These trips help to give the children a boost and make their treatments and frequent hospital admissions more bearable. They give the children happy memories and something to look forward to. The CWCF is a voluntary organisation and relies entirely upon donations.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now.
