Story

I am participating in a triad of physical endurance challenges throughout 2022 to raise money for Royal Cornwall Hospitals Charity (BAMS path of pain Fire walk; Cycle Dump Treasure Hunt; 200 mile Cornish Pedal4Patients challenge).

The COVID pandemic has had a major impact on healthcare delivery over the last two years.  Waiting lists have grown, patients are waiting longer for treatment and patients are being seen with more advanced disease.

To address these issues I am working tirelessly to create a planned care unit at Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust Treliske site which will serve the patients of Cornwall supporting increased delivery of essential care including cancer treatments and other life-threatening diseases such as ischaemic heart disease.

Historically, patients receiving planned or elective care have competed with emergency admissions and may have had their procedure cancelled if there weren't available beds.  It is my ambition to support out population that have waited for treatment with often debilitating, painful or life-threatening conditions in a first class facility that supports mental and physical recovery.

Hospital wards are often busy and noisy environments accommodating a mix of elective and emergency patients.  It is my vision that the planned care unit be a safe, calm and restful environment in which a patient's experience would exceed the best offerings of the private sector.

Through the challenges  I have set myself I hope to raise funds to ensure that it's not only the treatment that is first class but that the ward environment is unrivalled, offering patients in Cornwall the greatest experience they could wish for in what are often anxious and uncertain times.

Together we can do more for our hospitals and patients. Let us reimagine what public healthcare can deliver and create a space that is really special, delivering 21st century treatment and support for ourselves, our friends and our family.
