Guildford Cathedral is proud to be the People’s Cathedral. Open 365 days a year, we are a sacred place of welcome, worship, inspiration and engagement for all. Our past defines our present and future. Funded through the sacrificial generosity of 200,000 ordinary people following the Second World War, our ‘brick givers’ made this magnificent and modern cathedral possible. That spirit of giving and commitment continues today, as our congregation, wider Cathedral community, people of Surrey and beyond support us financially and prayerfully. Each and every one of those 200,000 bricks is vital in playing its part in holding up not just this structure, but our mission. The bricks come alive in our ministry of music, art, learning and heritage. Collectively, they have great significance locally, across Surrey and nationally. The Cathedral is far greater than the sum of its parts. In its short history, Guildford Cathedral has become a unique part of the national heritage:

Story

Music is the beating heart of Guildford Cathedral. But sadly, our rather elderly Steinway piano (c.1890s) has reached a point at which it needs some serious TLC. We are looking to raise in the region of £15,000-£20,000 either to refurbish our Steinway piano or part-exchange it for a more modern second-hand instrument.

I am running the Surrey Half Marathon (13.1 miles) to kick-start our fundraising efforts, and show the world that a Canon Liturgist can also put his money where his mouth is to support our music endeavours.

I'd love you to support me! Every pound I raise will help us get a piano that is fit for purpose, and will give me the motivation to run the miles.

In due course we will have a piano that gives music students (including from the University of Surrey) a chance to perform in this extraordinary and unique space, as well as for professional musicians to give recitals and perform concertos here.
