AngelmanUK is a United Kingdom based support group for those affected by the rare genetic condition Angelman Syndome (AS). A diagnosis of AS will have life changing consequences and we are there to help families cope. We also advise medical and care professionals dealing with this rare condition.

Story

So, around 4 months ago I became aware of the Ride London 100 and that I could raise money for Angelman UK  and I thought - well why not? I used to cycle a bit and could raise money for AngelmanUK so I decided to give it a go.
Of course - I've never ridden 100miles before... just the London to Brighton and that was 10 years ago ... but how hard could it be..?

Well its actually bloody hard! Having been training for the last 10 weeks on a turbo trainer as the weather had been so poor, its pretty clear that 100 miles is a far cry from anything I have done before.

I wanted to find a challenge that was reasonable but am not sure that I actually realised how tough this would be. As one of our clients said "Oh... you must be fitter than you look!"

So unlike some people who sky dive for charity because they love it or  run a marathon .. because they will be doing it anyway, I chose a challenge that is going to be "quite a stretch for you" as my physio said. I will happily accept all the encouragement or pity, in equal measure and if I don't finish, it wont be for lack of effort and I will still have your money as AngelmanUK needs it to keep doing the great work they do for us all.

Angelman Syndrome is a very rare genetic disorder that impacts 1 in 15-20,000 people. This is when there is a issue in UBE3A gene in the 15th chromosome. People with AS often have issues with, walking, little to no verbal communication, feeding, struggle with seizures. It's a tricky little sucker.

Along with the difficulties people with AS provide their families with such joy and love.
