Founded in 1880, our charity is tasked with ensuring that the buildings and grounds of the old village school now known as Wincobank Chapel, are well maintained, made available for the benefit of the neighbourhood and used for activities that improve the life-chances of young and old, without bias.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

We are raising funds to complete the renovation of the historic Old School House to become a Community Hub and Heritage Centre for Wincobank, Sheffield.

In 1850 antislavery-campaigner Mary Ann Rawson raised funds by public subscription to build  the School House to attract a good teacher to the village school she had founded in 1841.  She left the grounds and buildings in trust to be used for the benefit of the neighbourhood.

We want to honour this legacy by renovating the house as a Community Hub to provide advice, support and small group activities,  and also to tell the remarkable story of the founding family, the nearby iron age hillfort and the village of Wincobank.

Generous donations from many charities have enabled work to start to replace roof, windows and install accessible facilities,
but rising costs and unexpected issues have created an urgent need for additional funding in order to complete the internal refurbishment so we can open the building as soon as possible.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's an efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
