St Gemma's Hospice Windermere Row 2009 Winners: The Fowler and Oldfield Cup - fastest Men's team over 10 Miles
**************************************************************************************************************************************
Please try to read to the bottom of the page - there is a reason.
Having secured this Trophy the team decided to go for broke and repeat the exercise but this time compete in the 21 Mile Row - easy.
The actual row will take place on 12th June (webpage says 5th).
I plan to update the page as often as I remember and maybe even give an insight into the punishing training regime and schedule I will inflict upon myself during the training not easy when you are being 'sponsored' by Stella Artois and Pukka Pies.
The serious side is that it will hurt during and immediately after and maybe the next morning but it is for a great cause, St Gemma's Hospice and the fantastic help comfort and support they give to sufferers and family's in the difficult moments of the illness they are fighting.
Last year the two weekend event raised £91,000 in total and this year I have increased my personal target and I ask you to help me achieve this target and even more if possible.
Ricky Logan (Statto) who was in the initial PBRC team is still fighting his own personal battle with Leukaemia and I know given different circumstances he would be straight out there with me and the team again rowing the Miles.
I hope that my actions will help him and others who are fighting these diseases.
Thanks for your generosity.
Richard
ps. I cant believe I am actually typing this.................
Last Friday (14.5.10) I attended Ricky's funeral. He lost his battle the week before and we celebrated his life at Bolton Abbey Priory. So it makes this event even more poignant.
