Story

Hi everyone. My name's Peter Clegg, a customer service representative in motor insurance and a keen amateur runner. Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Last year, I ran the 2013 Great North Run for the Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Association, finishing in a time of 1:31:29, and raising a grand total of £1164.50 in the process. If you were one of those who donated the first time around, thank you ever so much once again for your kind donation - it was a memorable experience and the charity truly appreciated the money raised.

This year, I am running multiple races including the Bradford 10K, the Huddersfield Half Marathon, the Blackpool Beach 10K Run, and the 2014 Great Birmingham Run, with entry to further races to be confirmed. All these races will be in aid of the MND Association. The difference this time is that I am not racing through 'Golden Bond' places and am instead doing this purely through my own choice, and because the MND Association have been truly fantastic in their support of my mother and my family during and beyond her fight against motor neurone disease.

My mother was diagnosed with MND early in 2010. Despite battling hard against the disease, taking part in clinical trials and research, she died in August 2012.

MND is a progressive condition that affects the nervous system. While victims retain full control of their mind, it ravages the muscles in their legs and arms, leaving it wasted and weak, and can eventually affect breathing and swallowing. Most people diagnosed with the condition don't live beyond five years with the disease, and half of all diagnosed die within 14 months of diagnosis. It currently has no known cure.

The money raised will again go towards helping the charity to fund care and research into the disease, in the hope that one day it leads to a successful treatment and potentially a cure for this aggressive disease.

Please donate if you can - it is a fantastic cause and a great way to continue honouring my mother's memory, who I am sure is proud of you for supporting me in such a way. You can either do this here on the website, or by texting PCLG84 and your chosen amount (£1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 10) to 70070.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now. Even if its just a small amount, what would help just as much would be if you can spread the word about my cause to help in the fight against a relatively unknown but deadly condition. If you can help in any way, you sir/madam are awesome!

My upcoming races this year are as follows:

Sunday April 27th - Huddersfield Half Marathon
Sunday May 11th - Blackpool Beach 10K Run
Sunday October 19th - Great Birmingham Run

Previous races in 2014:

Sunday March 16th - Epilepsy Action Bradford 10K
Sunday February 9th - Liversedge Half Marathon
