A very close friend of mine has been bravely battling cancer for more than four years now and he has been supported, assisted and had his standard of life improved by the wonderful care of Marie Curie nurses.

Marie Curie Cancer Care are only able to offer the wide range of services and support they do thanks to the financial assistance they receive from charitable fundraising like this and I am hoping to give something back to them. 

Many of you will know Gary Burke who has been a Customs Officer, Revenue & Customs Officer, UKBA Officer and Border Force Officer for the last 25 years. All of us who have had the pleasure of knowing him will have fond memories of him - his cheerful character made him one of the most popular people wherever he went but sadly, he has recently been forced to retire on medical grounds at the age of just 44.

Most people who know me will know I like a few drinks but I have decided to give up alcohol for a month - October 2013 - for a sponsored "dryathlon" in the hope that you will support me to help raise as much money as possible for this worthy cause.

Okay, so I'm not swimming The Channel for charity but I never was much of a swimmer and this is not really about me, it's about helping Marie Curie Nurses get the funding to help sufferers of cancer to make their lives as bearable as possible.
