I’m going to tell you a little story about Lance and me: -
Lance Armstrong used to do Triathlons, so did I.
Lance has a resting heart rate of 32 beats per minute mine’s averages around 50 or so on a good day.
He also has a VO2 Max of 83.8 mL/kg/min which is nearly twice as much as the average man. Now by no means am I average but considering I’m in the process of giving up smoking I’ll give it to him and say it’s probably a little better then mine (only a little mind you).
Lance has had cancer and like the fantastic genetic gifts he was born with (which only shone through when combined with a stupid amount of training) he didn’t really have a choice in the matter. Neither do I, neither do you or any of the one in three people who are affected by cancer in their lifetimes in this country.
Lance has just made a comeback and I was thinking it’s high time that I do the same. I’ve been testing my wet suit, dusting off my running shoes and checking my breaks; I’m coming back to competitive triathlon.
On Sunday the 30th August I’ll be taking part in the Cockerham Sprint Triathlon and I’ve got a funny feeling after being out of the game for a couple of years this will be my Tour de France. Just like Lance does through his foundation I’ll be raising donations that will go to help fight cancer and this is where you come in.
Now I haven’t got any trendy celebrity friends, Nike sponsorship or claim to be one of the best sportsmen in the world but I have got a fantastic family and group of friends that are just as good as any race team support structure. It’s alright though I don’t need you to work for hours with me on bike design or let me draft you on a time trial (though you’re more then welcome to come a laugh at me on the day as I try to make my random splashing look like swimming). All I need is you to not have a couple of pints (or G&Ts) over the next few weeks and sponsor me with that money, via this site, so I can run this triathlon for Cancer Care.
All donations are appreciated and they will all go towards making a real difference to someone’s life. If you’re not clicking on the button to donate now just to seal the deal like Lance I’ll be wearing some lovely licra too.
Thanks for your time and generosity
