Story
In March, I’m walking (and maybe running!) 100 miles to raise money for Mind, the mental health charity.
Mind supports people who are struggling with their mental health, providing advice, services and a voice for those who need it most.
If you’d like to support me, I’d be hugely grateful. Every donation makes a difference.
Why am I doing this?
In January, I decided to set myself monthly challenges for the year ahead.
New Year’s resolutions don’t work. We’re bored with them by mid-January. But 12 smaller goals across the year? That felt more achievable.
At the start of January, I met a guy called Dean Perryman. He runs an events company Chicken Rush and also started an initiative called Empty Chairs. He created Empty Chairs after his friend Rob took his own life last November. Dean spoke about sitting in the pub and seeing the empty chair across from him, and that image stayed with me.
Since then, I’ve been to a few Empty Chairs events. They’re about conversation, connection, and making space for people to talk. After attending, I decided one of my monthly challenges this year would be to raise awareness and funds for mental health support.
Then this 100 miles in March challenge kept popping up on my socials (thanks, algorithm!) So I’ve signed up.
The distance itself won’t be the hard part, as I did 238 miles in January and 127 miles in February already. So for me, this is less about the miles and more about raising money for a great cause.
Mind asks each participant to raise £150. But I know we can do better than that.
So I’ve set myself a target of £1,000.
I’d love your help in supporting Mind and in remembering Rob. Every donation, big or small, genuinely helps.
