Story

On 11th September I will be taking part in the London to Brighton Cycle Ride in aid of a local charity that does wonderful work to support those with cancer.

The Paul Strickland Scanner Centre is based at Mount Vernon Hospital in Northwood, a centre of excellence for cancer patients in Greater London. It is an independent medical charity working to improve the lives of people affected by cancer and other serious conditions. They do this through medical research and by providing the best possible patient care using high quality MRI, CT and PET-CT scanners. These scanners are used for screening patients from all over north west London, Hertfordshire and the surrounding area.

Currently the charity is raising funds for two goals:

The Plus Fund has recently been set up so that they can respond quickly to the needs of their patients.  So far, this fund has provided cushions for patients’ legs so they are more comfortable during the scanning process, and they would like to acquire some colourful posters to brighten up the scanning room to improve the experience for patients.  This fund will also fund vital medical equipment or new technology to aid the fight against cancer.

They are also are currently raising money to fund an MRI Cervix Cancer Research Study.  The study is an early exploratory study which will use MRI scans to predict which patients are likely to respond less well to radiotherapy treatment, identify those patients and then intervene.

I remember only too well how kind and caring the staff were there when Rosemarie had to go there for her scans, and also the wonderful facilities they have which are all used to support the NHS by providing scanning services in this area. All of the expensive MRI, CT and PET-CT scanners they used are paid for by funds raised by this wonderful charity from legacies and donations. Without their support the equipment could not be kept up to date and about the best in Europe. So please support this charity to raise money to fund life-changing care and research.
