Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
As many of you already know my mother died this year on March 15th after a grueling battle with Pancreatic Cancer. There is seemingly no rhyme or reason why people get Pancreatic Cancer as so little is known about the disease, and so little is know about how to help those who are suffering.
A small indication of how little the medical field are able to do for those with Pancreatic Cancer is the pitiful survival rate; only 3% of those diagnosed survive for more that 5 years. These figures willgive you an idea of the extent of the impact research has on a cancer mortality rate: 40 years ago only 46% of women with Breast Cancer survived, today it is 80%. 40 years ago very few children survived Lukemia and now 80% survive. 40 years ago only 3% of Pancreatic Cancer sufferes survived and today that figure is still only 3%.
The high mortality rate, lack of awareness and lack funding of Pancreatic Cancer that cost Mummy her life has really inspired me to run the London Parks Half Marathon this October in order to raise money and hopefully awareness for the PCRF as we all need to do more for this, the most aggressive of cancers.
Running a Half Marathon for PCRF seemed so fitting bearing in mind Mummy's passion for running throughout her life and more specifically while she was ill. On many occasions we all tried to 'confiscate' her running shoes as after 26 sessions of Chemotherapy, 3 months of Radiotherapy, Liver Cancer and Pancreatic Cancer running on the road seemed a little crazy, however, she was determined and used to search them out and go running anyway! I think at one point we even tried to burn her trainers and yet someone told me they still saw her pacing up the road in an old pair!
Her tenacity and courage will inspire me forever, as it will many who knew her well and this is just a small way of realising that while raising money for a cause I believe in so strongly.
I implore you to donate to this charity to help all those thousands who are today battling with this aggressive disease with very little hope of survival.
Thank you!
