Hey folks

Delighted to report we made it! Thanks for all your fantastic support and encouragement. I can honestly say that the ride from London to Brighton through the night leaving at midnight and arriving at 07.35 was one of the most challenging, rewarding and exhilarating experiences I've ever had (bar the children!). The thrill of leaving in the dark in a great cavalcade of twinkling lights and glowing gear all ruling the road together was wholly unexpected and tremendous. All the training and hard work came together and lent wings to the ankles. On leaving London we climbed a bit, in greener and greener surroundings, until our first rest stop, where gallons of water and a quick coffee gave one a pep to start the real stages which were longer. There were two more rest stops, the final one being 17 miles from Brighton, where I downed a bacon butty for the last leg. And jolly good it was too. Thanks go to my husabnd for being support vehicle (always likes to check up on me!!) and my friend Lucy who pedalled all that way with me (cool cat) and with whom I shared many a laugh along the way. She was marvellous.

Highlights? Bombing down the tunnel of dark leafy lanes at full speed, cresting the hills just when you thought you were going to pass out and, the wonderful dawn on the South Dawns which looked looked like the Vaughan Williams music I mentioned in one of the posts. Stunning. 

Top highlight? Arriving of course, and seeing the sea!!! I cried.

If anyone had said to me 10 weeks ago that I was going to buy a bike and train alone to cycle 60 miles at night, I would never have believed them. But having a goal which is then dedicated is truly motivating, as is receiving so many kind donations and well wishes, for which again, my heartfelt thanks.
