Picklers Hill Advent Windows

Fundraising for Riding For The Disabled Association - Abingdon Group
raised of £550 target
We provide the opportunity of riding to improve the lives of disabled people.

This is the third year that our road has decorated and lit Advent Windows for all to see throughout December. This year we will be raising funds for a charity where Sarah Wilkinson (number 23) has volunteered for nearly 20 years - the Abingdon Riding for the Disabled Group.

Everyone looks forward to seeing the creativity and originality of these windows as they brighten the long evenings in December. Thank you to everyone who gets involved, your support is so appreciated, and the fundraising efforts will make such a difference to this small charity. Read on to find out more about what they do...

Abingdon Riding for the Disabled Group (based in Southmoor) provide riding lessons and therapy to nearly 100 children and adults every week. Horse riding is the most amazing way of doing physiotherapy for those with physical disabilities without even realising you are doing it, and it also is incredibly therapeutic for those with learning disabilities. We cater for all abilities - from children playing games with the help of two side walkers to sit up, to those wishing to compete at para-dressage competitions and showjump. Through horses and riding we build friendship, confidence, independence, strength and above all, have fun!

We run lessons 6 days a week and have 19 horses at our own purpose built centre. Apart from our two staff members, we are entirely dependent on volunteers (over 100!) and fundraising (around £100,000 a year running costs!). All donations received mean we can continue to spread our magic to the participants that need us most. Have a scroll through our photos to see that magic in action.

About the charity

From a purpose built centre in Oxon, we specialise in providing riding to private individuals, from all ages and a wide spectrum of disabilities. We provide as many riders as possible with the opportunity to ride to benefit their health and well being, and to support the achievement of their goals.
