Our beloved baby daughter Poppy Grace Venables was stillborn on 1st November 2013. She was beautiful beyond measure and both her Daddy & I couldn't be more proud and full of love for our baby girl.

She was perfect in every way, apart from one. She wasn't breathing. We don't know how long we sat there holding her, just willing her to breathe. Just one breath. Just one. To lose her like that was devastating, what a life she would have lived! Full of love, laughter and promise.

No parent should ever have to bury their child, and we hope that any donations to SANDS in Poppy's honour will help support other parents, siblings and families in the same situation as us; and also go towards research into why so many babies are tragically stillborn or die so shortly after birth. The statistics are shocking - in the UK 17 babies die every day; that's over 6,000 every year. That's 6,000 too many.

SANDS has a nationwide group of local networks run by bereaved parents to support anyone affected by the loss of a baby. Our local group, Chesterfield SANDS is part of this network and 100% of your donations will be used to support their work. It is also the most efficient way to donate: SANDS will receive your money electronically and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 25% in Gift Aid will be added to your donation at no cost to you. The Gift Aid is used to support SANDS work across the UK.
