We raise funds for vulnerable young people to become independent, self-sufficient.

Story

The Idea

My friend Theo came up with the idea for this event and as soon as I heard about his crazy plan, I immediately decided to jump in and be his wheelbarrow pushing partner.

The event will begin on the 27th-28th July. A 200L, 2 wheeled wheelbarrow will be pushed whilst walking/running over approximately 100 miles. It will be a relay between Theo and myself in which we will take it in turns to push each other. The final destination is yet to be decided.

All donations and support would be very much appreciated.

Give us a wave if you see us training!

The Cause

I am fundraising for an amazing charity called Pursuit International, which was founded by a group of my close friends in Worthing.

Pursuit is a UK registered charity which raises funds to support children raised in residential care in Kolkata, India. Pursuit does this in two ways.

Firstly, through the Rabiul Alam Momentum Project (RAMP). RAMP works with young people leaving care institutions, with the goal to see them become independent, self-sufficient, thriving adults. They have two mentors who work with the young people to help them secure safe accommodation, get enrolled in either academic or vocational education, find part-time jobs, and most importantly counsel them through this crucial phase in their life. Since it started in 2015, they have supported 14 young people. Their powerful stories can be read at www.pursuitinternational.org.uk.

Secondly, Pursuit is also supporting the children’s homes by funding critical interventions to provide holistic care for the children raised in this setting.

Just £12 provides one young person safe housing for a month. £30 could give a month of life-skills training or mentoring. £100 could give one young person the full RAMP programme for one month. So let’s aim to support a young person for 1year!!

This is an area that is close to my heart and I would love to be involved in something similar in the future, here in the UK.

The Blue Stag

So, we needed to find a wheelbarrow that was big enough and strong enough.

Theo and I were walking down a road and we caught the sight of a big blue wheelbarrow. It looked to be the perfect size, with its edges and big lugged wheels. So, we pursued it. We knocked on the door of the owner to have a look, a feel and a ride. It was perfect (minus the horse manure). The lovely gentleman gave it to us for cheap, and he was our 1st sponsor! The rest is history.

Theo fundraising (Hope Health Action)

Hope Health Action is a Christian NGO passionate about providing life-saving health and disability care to the world’s most vulnerable, without any discrimination. They provide short term but ultimately long term solutions to help those struggling with all elements of care. That being holistic care, emergency, maternal, infant and child care, disability, community and advocacy. They equip local health systems in the most fragile states, empowering national staff and facilities to fulfill their vision, ensuring the world’s poorest receive accessible, dignified and compassionate healthcare.

Hope Health Action was officially founded in 2007, and launched under the name ‘Haiti Hospital Appeal’, in line with its original call to help build a hospital in Northern Haiti.

As the work in Haiti has grown, the new name Hope Health Action adequately describe the heart and mission for the work in Haiti and the support to other countries.

Having been to Haiti over two years ago to help support the charity I can vouch on the massive impact all donations and help goes towards this organisation.

Thousands of young people around the world have been rescued from vulnerable situations. But too often these young people - in spite of years incredible investment and support - end up back in poverty, and the cycle continues. It shouldn’t be like this, and we are passionate to change this pattern.
