Story

PUSH FOR PREMS 10,000 STEPS – Together, helping to save tiny lives.

Thank you for visiting our page. Push for Prems 2020 is going to be a little different this year and now more than ever, the TMBU in Brighton and SCBU in Haywards Heath need your SUPPORT.

Each year, we walk for the Early Birth Association (a registered charity that supports the Trevor Mann Baby Unit, RSCH, Brighton and PRH Special Care Baby Unit, Haywards Heath, www.earlybirth.co.uk).

On 5th July, we were meant to be taking part in our 11th PUSH FOR PREMS annual sponsored walk along the seafront, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic we will have to change how we do things this year. It is vital that we stay safe, especially our most vulnerable. So, we are launching Push for Prems 10,000 STEPS.

Instead of our usual sponsored walk from the Royal Sussex County Hospital to Hove Lagoon, we are asking all of our families and those that want to support the Trevor Mann Baby Unit to hold your own sponsored walk from home. Our usual route is approximately 10,000 steps and so we thought it would be great to complete the same distance but from our own homes – around your lounge, your back garden or as part of your daily exercise with your family. You can WALK, RUN or SKIP the 10,000 steps over a day or split into manageable chunks for little feet. All we ask is that you stay safe and have fun while raising VITAL FUNDS FOR THE BABY UNITS.

Each year, we love dressing up, getting together, seeing old friends and meeting new families. Although we can’t physically be together, we still want this year to be great! So PLEASE share your stories, and take lots of photos. Wear your Push for Prems tshirts if you’d like to or why not go for it anyway and dig out those tutus and doctors and nurses fancy dress outfits – make the event your own and have FUN FUN FUN!

Our 11th Push for Prems was due to take place on SUNDAY 5th JULY and lots of us are sticking to that date to complete our 10,000 steps, but if you would like to do it the day before or prior to that date, that’s great too! Just don’t forget to take lots of photos so we can share your story.

This year, we are raising funds for vital equipment for the Trevor Mann Baby Unit. The unit can give little ones, born as early as 23 weeks, (17 weeks early) the best chance of survival. There are only a few hospitals in the country that have this facility. This comes at a time where the NHS has been stretched to the limit and charitable support is more vital than ever. Please support us if you can.

Last year we had nearly 200 families take part and we met so many AMAZING NICU graduates – let’s see if we can do the same again this year and not let this pandemic hamper our fundraising efforts. Together, WE CAN make Push for Prems 2020 a walk to remember! To keep things simple, we ask that all donations come via this JUSTGiving page. Please dig deep as every penny counts and will help to provide much need equipment and supplies.

Thank you for all your ongoing support over the years. Together, we have raised nearly £100,000 for the Early Birth Association, Ronald McDonald House, SERV Sussex and the Neonatal Ambulance Service. The Push for Prems Team is a tiny group of parents that have spent months in the TMBU with premature babies, some as tiny as just one pound. We and any parent that has had a premature baby knows what a terrifying experience this is, but we have also seen our little ones defy the odds, showing so much strength and determination for life. None of this would be possible without the amazing care provided by our special care baby units and the additional support provided through charitable donations.

Thank you so much for your ongoing support

Love Catherine, Jess & Donata x x
