Story
The Alzheimer's Society is leading the fight against dementia. In the UK alone, there are over 40,000 people under the age of 65 living with dementia.
Conditions of dementia include memory loss, mood changes, difficulties with thinking, problem solving or language. It's caused when the brain is damaged by Alzheimer's disease or stroke.
Along with tens of thousands of other people in the UK, several of our own staff have unfortunately had to deal with family members suffering the devastating and irreversible effects of dementia.
Dependent upon charitable donations, with monies such as those provided from us via this JustGiving page, the Alzheimer's Society can undertake valuable research into cures for the disease as well as provide drug treatments and support services to patients and their carers.
So, we're dusting off our hiking shoes from last year's Yorkshire Three Peaks to get ready for this year's walk... Hadrian's Wall. Now before you think that's physically impossible, after all the full length of Hadrian's Wall is 84 miles, we're only tackling part of the Wall. A 30-mile stretch between Banks and Bowness-on-Solway, to be exact.
Split into 2 5-hour sections, our keen ramblers can complete one or both lengths, dependent upon fitness level and hiking ability.
We're hoping that more people will participate this year, in the walk itself and by donating money to the worthy cause. That way, we've got a strong chance of beating our 2015 fundraising total.
So let's make it a real team effort and raise money for the Alzheimer's Society. If you can spare a few pounds - and every penny makes a huge difference - please pledge here. Thank you in advance for your generosity.
