Story

UPDATE (October 2015) It was my Dad's birthday on October 5th. I'm sad he wasn't around to celebrate it. But, on September 23rd (my Mum's birthday), we performed another show in aid of his chosen charity at the Everyman Theatre, Cheltenham. Sadly, this show was also a tribute to Jean Jones - my Mother-In-Law - who passed away unexpectedly this year and left us all devastated and shocked. So, we dedicated this show to her memory and also remembered my father as well. Thanks to everyone who came along and bought a ticket. I'll update this page when I know how much we raised.

UPDATE (February 2015)
My father is never far from my thoughts and next week sees the second year of missing him and my Grandma (his mother). I've recently set up a new 10-piece band called Total Commitments, where I play the drums - which is something he always wanted to do. We'll be appearing at The Everyman Theatre, Cheltenham, on September 23rd of this year to raise some more money for the cause. It's a tribute to the music of

'The Commitments' film and we can promise they'll be dancing in the aisles.

UPDATE (March 2014) It's a year since my Dad (and my Grandma passed away) and I'm very happy to announce that the recent Blues Brothers Reloaded show, at The Everyman Theatre in Cheltenham, raised over £2000 for Dad's chosen charity. It was a concert put together as a tribute to him and even the collection buckets raised £80 on their own. People have donated on here that couldn't make it to the show and have donated after the show too, so it's a massive thanks to everyone who came along or put their hand in their pocket. I know my family and I really appreciate it.

Best wishes & rainbow fishes, BARNABY (Son of Ray, Grandson of Syliva)

UPDATE (September 2013) Firstly, THANK YOU to everyone for the money raised. We are all incredibly touched by your geneoristy. Secondly, I've reformed my successful 10-piece Blues Brothers tribute show for a one-off gig in aid of Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research. Booking is open NOW. It will be held at The Everyman Theatre, Cheltenham, on Monday 10th of February 2014. Tickets sold out for the last gig we did their in 2011, so demand will be high. ORIGINAL BLURB (March 2013) This page has been set up specifically to raise money for a Tribute Fund in honour of a loving husband, a devoted father, a doting Grandfather and a proper gentleman.

All money will go to his chosen charity, in his name. It will also include all donations from his mother's funeral (Sylvia Jones), who sadly passed away a week after her son. This was on the request of his surviving sister, Shirley Townsend.

Ray's funeral was held at Gloucester Crematorium, on Friday 15th March, 2:30pm. Donations were asked for, in place of flowers (unless close family), which can still be placed here on this Just Giving Page or sent/given direct to the funeral directors; SC & BS Cocks, 59 Hucclecote Road, Gloucester, GL3 3TL.

He was diagnosed with chronic leukemia in the early 1980s and was given a prognosis of two years to live. But, through determination, willpower and the support of a great medical team at the Edward Jenner clinic in Gloucester Hospital, he fought the battle for nearly 30 years. He was often dubbed 'The Miracle Man' and was, so we were told, talked about as an example during top-flight medical conferences in London. Sadly, a prolonged stay in hospital in late 2012, to clear up an infection, did nothing more than give him more infections and, even though he discharged himself for Christmas, he was soon back in hospital again in 2013. He fought on and astounded those around him but, tragically, the chronic leaukemia changed to a more acture (and aggressive form) - which may have been the result of the bombardment of infections and antibiotics and lack of food/drink in his system - and we were all told there was nothing anyone could do. He still fought on but passed away, peacefully, on the 6th of March 2013; surrounded by family.

In his last days, he was being attended by his daughter, Sophie, and cheekily smiled up at her and said: "I'm not unhappy!"

So, let's all strive not to be unhappy and give generously to the cause he supported, to rid the world of the disease he battled so bravely, stoically and successfully for so long.

He was an inspiraton and will never fade from our memories and our hearts.

Love you always, Daddio.
