Okay no laughing, but it's official - I'm doing the 10km in Cardiff!!!

In case you hadn't noticed I'm signed up for the 10km Race For Like of the 14th of July! For those who know me well - I have NEVER run 10km before so this is huge! I have been training for 6 weeks now for the Half Marathon in October, and finally feel I might actually be able to run 10km (without major cardiac failure) and raise money for a great cause!!

So just a quick plea;  please donate!!! Even if it's the spare change from your cup of coffee this morning; it all counts! 

Why am I doing this?

Recently women in my family were tested for the BRAC 1 gene (a known genetic predisposition to breast cancer) as there is a strong family history of Breast Cancer in my family. My mum and my grandma were the lucky ones but sadly, 2 of them tested positive for this gene and bravely underwent voluntary mastectomies (surgical removal of the breasts) as a precaution. , 

I worked in a lingerie department with women who have undergone these procedures, and I cannot stress enough how admirable these women are for staying so strong after such a traumatic experience.

To most of us, the thought of losing our breasts might seem like the end of the world, like without them we lose our feminity, our sexuality, a part of us. But these women showed me that no matter how physically and emotionally destructive cancer can be, life is worth fighting for! 

So if these beautiful women (and men) can stay strong enough to fight Breast Cancer - 10km is comparatively a doddle!
