Story

Thank you for visiting my page and hopefully sponsoring me.

I have done the race for life for the last few years in memory of my dad but this year I was asked by one of my closest friends April to run in memory of her beautiful daughter Abigail or Abi to her friends who was born on 24th October 2008 and was granted her wings on 25th March 2011.

I count myself as a very lucky person to have been given the privaledge of looking after Abi whilst her mummy and daddy were at work and she has left my family with some amazing memories that we will cherish forever.

Abi was diagnosed with rhabdomyosacoma (a rare form of cancer affecting fewer than 60 children per year in the UK) in July 2010 aged just 21 months. By the time the cancer was caught it had spread from her hip (14cm tumor) to her spine, bone marrow and lungs.

Abi (with her mummy and daddy by her side) embarked on a gruelling schedule of chemotherapy but despite the sickness and other nasty side effects of chemo Abi always had a cheeky little smile on her face. Even when her hair fell out, she didn't care, in fact she was excited as she said she looked liked daddy! .

In January Abi's family were over the moon when they were told that the tumors had disappeared from her lungs and spine, and the tumor in her hip had shrunk to just 6cm. This elation was short lived when Abi had a fit at home and an MRI revealed that the cancer had spread to her brain and was inoperable.

The next week was packed with a trip the the beach with Abi's friends. The sea life centre with mummy and daddy, Ark animal sanctuary with mummy, daddy and uncle chris and shopping trips to toys r us. Abi, who dreamed of holding micky mouses hand also got to meet him at acorns which made all of the children there very happy.

I will always remember this special little lady as a great friend who loved to dance and gave amazing cuddles, and will always admire her bravery and courage, she was an inspiration.

Although your donations cannot help Abi or her family, by sponsoring me now you can help more people survive cancer.
