Story

In Memory of

Tabata (Carlota) Perez Gregg

It's the first year I have entered the race and unfortunately it only came to mind as my close friend Tabata was diagnosed with breast cancer.  Somehow it makes cancer more real when you know someone directly affected by it.  We are all so busy in our daily lives these days, it takes something so horific as cancer to make you slow down and consider this vicious disease for what it really is...

Tabata was my very good pal from Tampico, Mexico.  Our friend Andy Gregg (from Barrow) met and married Tabata whilst working in Mexico.  Tabs was a lovely lady, so kind, generous and thoughtful.  "England was a nice place to live" she used to say, "Especially the Lake District... but the weather is rotten!?*.."  Tabatas English was impeccable, my Spanish was lousy!  Tabs loved movies, music and Thornton’s chocolates.  She liked good food, particularly the hot and spicy variety.  She showed me how to make gorgeous Mexican rice that our customers love so much, and how best to take tequila!  Tabs was affectionate towards everyone.. and everyone who had the privilege to know her, liked her.

Breast Cancer was diagnosed while she was 29 weeks pregnant with her son Adam... A mastectomy was carried out at 30 weeks.  Unfortunately treatment was delayed as she decided to forgo chemo and carry Adam until he could be born by caesarean and still stand a chance of survival.  After Adam was born, chemotherapy began and the fight started... 2 long hard years later after a tough and courageous battle, Tabs lost her life last Sunday (12th March 06) leaving a husband and toddler.  She was just 37 years old.

Since registering my entry for the Race for Life, my lovely friend Tabs has died... my fundraising was too late for her.  Lets hope this Race for Life will help prevent such a young mum and wife suffering like this again.  All my staff at Amigos are running this race in June, each for their own personal reasons... please support this worthy charity and hopefully we can one day find a cure for this disease.

Thank you for visiting our fundraising page. Please dig deep and sponsor us online.  Alternatively, you can make a donation at the bar in Amigos (there will be a sponsor form there!)
