Story

15th May, 2013
It's with great sadness that I have learnt that my cousin, Barry Underwood passed away yesterday evening, from cancer.  Barry's cancer was diagnosed very shortly after I got my all clear and it claimed his life just a few weeks later.  He will be very much in my thoughts when I take part in the Race for Life in Latchford the village where we must first have met,  at our Grandparents' home, when I was too young to remember.

I finally took the plunge and took part in the Race for Life in Wrexham last year, having wanted to join in for a few years and inspired by Madge White, .  One thing I was certain of by the end was that I wanted to do it again!  Following my own cancer scare over Christmas and a resulting hysterectomy operation I realised, sadly that I might not be fit in time for the Wrexham event and so instead have signed up for the event in Warrington a few weeks later.   My old home town is still very close to my heart and there are a number of reasons why it is a very fitting place for me to take part in the Race for Life this time round, also I have many friends and family still in the area and not too far beyond and I hope perhaps some of them may come along to cheer me on, or better still sign up and join me in what will be simply a walk in the park!

This year I will be walking as I did last, for all those people I know who have a loved one or have themselves been affected in the past or are currently suffering from cancer but now also as a survivor myself, I have even more reason to raise funds to help get cancer on the run and save people in the future from the fear and suffering of this awful disease.

If you wish to donate in aid of any cancer survivor, lost loved one or indeed, yourself, please let me know and I will add their names to this page and write them on the backsign I will wear during the walk as I did last year.
