Story
This is my story
I entered Race for Life for the first time in 2006. My brother in law Paul had died from bowel cancer the previous Christmas. He was only 46. So I decided to set myself a challenge - I hated running so Race for Life was the obvious way to help do my bit to fight cancer. I have taken part in 3 events and after a 4 year break decided it was time to do it again.
Unfortunately cancer seems to have become an aspect of my life. My father died from malignant melanoma (skin cancer) in 2008 and last year I was diagnosed with the same condition. Luckily it was at a relatively early stage and following a skin graft was given the all clear. I need to have regular check ups but that is a small price to pay.
A month ago I found OUT my best friend and Race for Life buddy was diagnosed with cancer. She is currently recovering from an operation and facing a short course of radiotherapy.
We are still determined to do Race for Life at Worcester on 16th June even if this year we resort to walking the course.
So hopefully my story will inspire you to pledge your support for this important cause.
P.S. The photo is of me diving in Scotland last August - a mere 6 weeks after my operation and an in important step in my recovery.
