Story
Cancer, we're coming to get you!
So Edinburgh. Time to watch out again. The Madden/Mair combo are about to hit the streets walking. Yes, really. After our resounding success in the previous two efforts (5K three years ago and 20 - yes, that's twenty - K last year) we've decided to embark on a new speciality. 10K is this year's target. Some might say that's an interesting order to choose, but those of you who know us will understand that it's a plan carefully crafted over many months coming to fruition.
We've undergone intensive training and cut everything from our diets which might detract from reaching our goal of becoming finely honed women. Not a drop of alcohol has passed our lips and it's not unknown for us to be out at 5.30am come rain or, well, rain really, pounding the streets of Dunfe...
Oh ok, we haven't done any training yet. But we both know how to walk quite well and you really do need the calories from chocolate and wine to get you round something like this. It doesn't do to be too thin. And Carol doesn't like it if I have to sit on her to stop her blowing away. Especially after last year, when we were practically blown off Arthur's Seat by a horizontal force something-or-other gale accompanied by freezing rain in the middle of the night, the only lights being the ones round our tastefully decorated bras... But we raised a bucketload of money for the Moonwalk so now we think it's the turn of Cancer Research to benefit from our walking. And, well, from our lovely, generous friends (that's you) and their HEC (hard earned cash...)
Because we've both lost wonderful people to his horrible disease. We both know wonderful people who are, at this moment suffering with this horrible disease. And we know you do too. We also know that everybody wants sponsors for these walks and runs and quite honestly, if you sponsor someone else you are sponsoring us all. But we know you love us both and would probably like to donate a little bit, even if just to see our sweat covered faces and blister plasters covering all sorts of nasty things. And that'll just be walking from Waverley to Holyrood Park...
Also, if you sponsor us, we promise to sing/not to sing (wotever!!) as we powerwalk our way to the finishing line and the G&Ts thereafter. Well, we all need incentive, don't we?
So thank you for reading this and congratulations on still being awake. Here's the official stuff that you need to know. If you can't be bothered to read it, just hit the sponsory button now!! Oh, and the gift aid thing - I think we raised nearly £200 in gift aid alone last year. Please do if you can...
Thank you for being wonderful and please continue to remain just that way!!
