Story

Welcome to My Race For Life Page, By Visiting You've Taken The First Step Towards Helping Us Beat Cancer!!

I just wanted to let everyone know why I'm taking part in this years Race For Life.  Everyone at some point in their lives is touched by cancer, whether it be friends, family or even yourself that has suffered.  1 in 3 of us will develop cancer at some point in our lives, and together, through every penny donated we have the amazing ability to change that diagnosis to a more hopeful one, with a good chance of survival.

Last year I lost my teenage cousin Sarah Berry to cancer.  She was a wonderful, talented young woman with everything to live for, but unfortunately for us, she was wanted elsewhere and was taken from us what feels all too prematurely.  Sarah's funeral was beautiful, but at the same time, absolutely devastating, especially for her parents and brother.  I felt useless, there was nothing I could say or do to ease their heartache and suffering.  I didn't even want to try and imagine what they were going through.

So when I was sent an email at work about Race For Life, I signed up straight away (and then worried about how I was going to run the 5km!!).  This, although small, is my way of trying to help all those families out there that have, are and will suffer the pain of cancer.  Together we can change the prognosis of cancer to one that doesn't have to mean an end to life, but just the start of another chapter that we can turn the page on after treatment.  Remember, Race for Life is about Hope and Memories.

I am dedicated my Race For Life to my Cousin Sarah Berry, My Grandad Eric Davison (who passed away from Prostate Cancer in 1996) and my sister-in-law Helen Bie who survived cancer and is one of the most vibrant and determined people I know, and never lets anything get her down!!!!  Hel, you're an inspiration!!!

Cancer Research UK, depends entirely on donations and survives without government funding.  Please don't feel embarrassed if you can only afford 10p, that could make this difference of me hitting my £130 target.

I hope everyone who reads this will be with me in spirit on the day and help me to make a difference.  I've started the training a month ago and with the support of friends who are running with me and my husband and step-son at the finish line, I plan to cross the finish line, still running with the biggest grin on my face  (then straight to the local for a Brandy & Coke!!)

Thank you for taking the time to read my story and thank you for your support.  If you have any problems trying to sponsor online just call the Race For Life Local Rate telephone number on 08705 134314.

Love & Hope

PS, Just remember, whatever I raise for Race For Life, my employer Halifax Bank Of Scotland will match it so we can double our total!!!

Update 03/04/2007:  As everyone has been so amazingly generous I've decided to raise my target to £300 as we have until June to hit this target!!  Thanks to everyone's generosity, especially my old friends from Eirias High School in Colwyn Bay, it may be nearly 10 years since we've all seen each other, but that hasn't stopped you all being so generous xx

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me - Cancer Research UK will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
