The RNLI has been operating at full capacity since the start of lockdown. Our service has been rescuing people throughout the Coronavirus pandemic and our heroic crews commitment to saving lives has not stopped.

Story

Saturday 9th October 2021 will see 130 years to the day since the first ever Street Collection took place which shaped the way charities fundraise today. The collection was hosted by the brilliant city of Manchester following one of the RNLI's worst lifeboat disasters of all time.  27 Lifeboat Men lost their lives rescuing the stricken vessel 'The Mexico' off the coast of Lytham St Annes & Southport.

Manchester Industrialist Charles Macara and his Lady wife Marion were so concerned for the wives and children of those volunteers who had died, they organised a Lifeboat to come into the streets of Manchester & the city raised over an amazing £5,000 - the equivalent of millions today. https://rnli.org/about-us/our-history/timeline/1891-first-street-collection.

On Saturday 9th October, we will once again be bringing a Lifeboat into the Manchester  into St Annes Square and Manchester will once again host a city wide street collection to raise funds for the RNLI.

Please help me to raise at least the same amount they did in 1891. Thank you

The RNLI has been operating at full capacity since the start of lockdown. Our service has been rescuing people throughout the Coronavirus pandemic and our heroic crews commitment to saving lives has not stopped. Unfortunately, our ability to raise funds has been limited. The average lifeboat station in the North West costs £136,000 a year to run and we are going to have a significant shortfall in income due to the Coronavirus. We are asking all our friends and communities to donate what they can to keep us running. All along the North West coast from Silloth to West Kirby, we will always be there to keep you and your loved ones safe, on our watch, there will be no preventable deaths on the North West coast. Please help us fulfil that mission.
