Update: 27 Aug 12

Thank you to everyone who has made a donation - we are so humbled by all your donations and your generosity and we have exceeded our target by nearly £500! We still have around £200 to collect :-)

Race Update:

With an early start on Sunday morning - alarm clocks set for 3 am, breakfast of toast and honey at 3.30 am and in the car at 3.45 am the big day was upon us - we were both very nervous and not alot was said on the way to the race! It was still dark when we arrived and everyone was running around setting up thier transition areas and all you could see was torches flickering everywhere! 

We had to be ready by 05.30 as the transition area closed just in time for the race brief at 05.45 and it was just starting to get light. 

The race brief took place just where the swim start was which ironically was at the finish line!! It would be along time before we saw that again. With over 300 triathletes in wetsuits you could feel the tensions and nerves!

Race brief over, we were allowed to enter the water to warm up - it was lovely - not too cold and very still - you could just see the sun starting to rise in the east - a calm, still and dry day - perfect for racing!

Paula was off at 06:10 and Rab followed 10 minutes later.

The whole race was great - the water was warm but it was hard to find 'space in the water' due to so many swimmers (unless your name is Rab and you followed the lead canoe all the way!)  the cycle was through such beautiful countryside and the run was around the Cotswold Water Park lakes - all in all an amazing race!

Finally we crossed the finish line - all the hard work had paid off and it had all been worth it.

Paula 5 hrs 07 minutes, Rab 5 hrs 22 minutes
