Bee's Journey · 4 September 2016

Our life-changing research can fight diseases, tackle global challenges and change society. At Nottingham, students from all backgrounds can achieve extraordinary things, in and out of the classroom. But talent needs a catalyst. You can shape the future and help make the incredible happen, every day

Story

I’m cycling in memory of Bee Brook, and thinking of her family.

I knew Bee as a prolific writer. She was also a musician, songwriter, singer, friend and much more. Bee was a fellow editor on an online writing community, providing invaluable feedback and gentle encouragement to so many writers over the years.

Once diagnosed with breast cancer, Bee made the bold decision to write publically about living with cancer on ABCTales.com. Primarily, Bee wanted to give a real voice to others facing cancer, their carers too, to facilitate a sense of unity and honesty about what is a chronically isolating disease.  Bee shared her journey in vibrant prose, poetry and performance work, often with startling humour and pragmatism.

Bee died of a secondary brain lymphoma on June 17th, 2016. She is deeply missed by her family, close friends and the wider writing community.

I hope you’ll consider sponsoring me and thank you, in advance, for all contributions.
