Story
As many of you will know, my dear mum was diagnosed with bowel cancer in the summer of 2021 and sadly died in December 2021, peacefully at home, surrounded by family. This was made possible by the exceptional help we received from a St Peter's Hospice nurse specialist who called us every week for the final month of her life, once she was discharged home. He gave us such support and confidence that we could manage all of mum's symptoms, which meant we could keep her comfortable at home, where she wanted to be.
Since mum died, I have had the privilege to join the therapy team at the Hospice as a physiotherapist and see on a daily basis what an incredibly precious place this is. Everyone at the Hospice strives to do whatever it takes to carry out patient's wishes and give patients the best possible quality of life, right up until the point that they die.
80% of our funding comes from fundraising such as this. Thanks to donations like yours, we can be a voice at the end of the phone 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to anxious patients, carers and professionals. We can offer all our patients a team of medics, highly qualified nurses, a therapy team, emotional and psychological support, spiritual support and access to social workers. We help patients with all types of life-limiting diseases, not just cancer.
Your donation, however big or small, means St Peter's Hospice can continue to be the precious place it is to our patients and their families and continue to help families just like mine who need their help.
I WILL BE COVERING ALL MY OWN COSTS, SO EVERYTHING DONATED WILL GO TO ST PETER'S. Thank you so much for sponsoring me. Rachel x
