This year, I’ve set myself a personal challenge: to walk 200k during the month of May to raise money for Brain Tumour Research. I’ve chosen this charity because, over the last eight months, brain tumours have been at the heart of my family’s pain and heartbreak.

As many of you know, on the 1st of April, we lost my uncle Brian after a brave and difficult fight with a brain tumour. He was one of the kindest and most caring people you could ever meet — a true role model to all of us, and someone we miss deeply every day.

This challenge is both a physical and emotional journey for me, and I’ll be thinking of my uncle Brian with every step I take.

In the UK, over 11,000 people are diagnosed with a brain tumour each year, and just under 13% of those diagnosed with a high-grade brain tumour survive beyond 5 years. Yet, brain tumour research remains vastly underfunded. These figures highlight the urgent need for greater awareness and more investment in effective treatments.
