When Ravi passed away thousands of people were shocked. Facebook and Twitter lit up with glowing tributes and there was a sea of profile pictures changing with his iconic "(c) RSKG" water mark on them. I doubt Ravi knew the impact he had on so many lives. He would play in goal to help others enjoy their game, spend vast sums of his own money to support his club, organise events and join committees to ensure others participated.
On 27 May at Wide Lane Sports Ground in Southampton, current Southampton University Hockey Club (known to many as Wessex), Wessex Alumni, Reading Hockey Club, Fareham Hockey Club and The Hockey Maker Tour Team were represented. We played a six a side round robin tournament and took time to share memories of Ravi and discuss the work of CALM.
Following the event we held a raffle that included donations from Rio Olympic Gold Medalist Sam Quek, Welsh senior international Rhodri Furlong, Adidas Hockey, Oakley Hockey, Water Gull Orchards, VeloVision Magazine and private donors. Thank you also to Wessex Clothing for their incredible efforts in designing and producing the shirts for the day. And to Wide Lane for allowing us to host the event. After we finished packing up we headed to Ravi's favourite bar, Clowns and continued to exchange tales of Ravi's great contribution to our sport.
There are still donations coming in as people are picking up shirts they could not collect on the day. This should raise another £300 and take us over £2000 in total once collected. Current Wessex have pledged to donate the proceeds from the annual Wessex 6s event to this too.
Many were not able to attend the event due to traffic issues and prior commitments. Consequently this page has been set up to channel further donations.
