Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page - my first ever!

Once my target has been reached, I will be getting the same buzz cut that Lucy gave herself on 1st January 2016; a number 3! Yup, bye bye to the hair on my head! If it is long enough I will also donate it to a charity that makes wigs for cancer patients. I am doing this in solidarity with a dear friend fighting leukaemia and to fund-raise in her honour :)

Here's the story:

One of my closest friends, Lucy Angier, was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia on 10th December 2015 - just 4 weeks prior to me typing these words. She is 27. That day, she was admitted to University College Hospital in London and been there since. She has had 10 day course of chemotherapy; the last dose being on Christmas Day.

And yet she is still smiling! That's Lucy. Her positive attitude and creative coping mechanisms inspire me each time I visit or hear from her. I think she is the only person I know that could have had chemo on Christmas Day and say they had a 'nice day' !! The support she has from her parents (who have lived in her room with her since admission), brother, family, friends and colleagues has been amazing to see.

Of course, she also receives fantastic care from the staff at the hospital. Some of the most smiley hospital staff I've met! However, there is always more that can be done to help the experience of haematology patients receiving treatment there. That's where Haematology Cancer Care comes in. They fund medical equipment, complementary therapy for patients, continuing professional development for nurses, and much more.

No donation is small. But regardless of whether you are able to donate on here, please also consider registering to be a potential bone marrow or stem cell donor. This is so vital. Lucy may need this and so many other people are awaiting a match too. Registering is so simple - you can do this via Anthony Nolan (16-30 year olds) or Delete Blood Cancer (18-55 year olds).
