Story
YoungMinds UK is committed to improving the emotional wellbeing and mental health of young people in this country. The decision to support this charity was made by the students of Reading School.
They support parents; provide training for professionals who work with young people; and offer young people chances to improve services and campaign for change. Today, young people confront a dizzying array of pressures, from 24-hour social media to sexualised culture. It’s no wonder three children in every classroom have a diagnosable mental health disorder. With half of all lifelong mental illnesses beginning before the age of fourteen, early intervention is crucial. Unfortunately, NHS mental health services remain woefully underfunded and inadequate. Even worse, mental illnesses are heavily stigmatised. Therefore, YoungMinds UK drives for improvements in young people’s mental health services – and makes information about mental health accessible, to challenge stereotypes and stigma. Mental illness affects every one of us, whether directly or indirectly. Vote for a charity which is writing a more positive narrative.
