Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I'm doing the Great North Run with my mam and a group of people from AYME (The Association of Young People with M.E). I will be being pushed around in my wheelchair but I'm hoping to walk any small bits that I can!

I was diagnosed with M.E almost 3 years ago. M.E is a widely misunderstood illness but can be so debilitating and life limiting. The main symptom is extreme fatigue and lack of energy, unlike the 'normal tiredness' that people feel after a long day. The fatigue is accompanied by many other symptoms such as aches and pains in the muscles and joints, headaches, nausea, insomnia, cognitive impairment (for example, memory loss and concentration difficulties), light and noise sensitivities and, in extreme cases, paralysis.

AYME offers support to young people with M.E and their families and puts them in touch with other young people with the illness who understand how they are feeling. AYME played a huge part in helping me come to terms with the illness and the drastic change in my lifestyle that having M.E caused.

I now do volunteer work for AYME by helping run workshops around the North East for young people in the area who suffer with M.E. The workshops have given young people with M.E an opportunity to ask questions about their M.E and to get help and support from other young people who are going through the same thing. It also gives people a chance to socialise as living with M.E can be very isolating. I am also taking part in a programme run by AYME where I contact young people with M.E every week to give them support and suggestions to help with anything they are struggling with.

AYME relies on donations to run these services and the many more ways that they support young people with M.E so any donations to this page will be greatly appreciated so that this charity can carry on with the great work it does.

About the charity
