Hello everyone!

I'm excited to announce that I've been successful in being selected to volunteer with Raleigh as part of International Citizen Service (ICS) in Nepal next Spring for three months! The project is GOVERNMENT FUNDED - so your donations go directly to Raleigh International Trust (they will not fund my trip), and will fund further work in Nepal!

I have a fundraising target of £800, and I will be working hard to meet this before my deadline in December! I would massively appreciate support with this, whether that be through a kind donation (even a just few pounds or pennies will really make a difference!), or through offering physical help with the fundraising!

In order to help reach my goal, I will be doing a sponsored 84 mile cycle ride around Essex! This will be a challenge but I have chosen to cycle one mile for each day I will be in Nepal.  

Nepal is one of the poorest countries in the world and the second poorest in Asia, where ~25% of Nepalese people live below the poverty line. Inequality is also a challenge, as just 6% of women are formally employed. The poorest people of Nepal are also the most at risk of being affected by climate change - Nepal is the fourth most climate vulnerable country in the world.

The project requires me to live in a rural Nepalese community, working in a team of 12, and staying in a host home. The team will be half British and half Nepalese and we will be working towards creating long lasting youth-led change in a rural community, providing access to safe water and sanitation, by focusing on educating the community on the importance of hygiene and sanitation with regard to their health. There will also be a focus on building livelihoods for women in the community to help them create an income for themselves.
