Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

This page has been created just ONE WEEK before the Manchester Marathon on 10th October 2021 for three reasons.

1. I booked to run this event in April 2020 initially as a personal thing. Did London 2011 and had a bad finish so always felt like I had unfinished marathon business. It was cancelled due to covid twice and re-arranged to October. It didn't seem a good idea to collect sponsor money until now.

2. I've been pretty ill throughout the last 9 weeks of training in August and September and need something to run for and get me over the line. Because of covid, the marathon field is going out in waves. I'm in Blue Wave going out at noon in October - which, if you've experienced long distance running, you'll know these make the Manchester Marathon extra challenging. 

3. East Cheshire Hospice do amazing things in Macclesfield every day to support terminally ill patients at their end of their life and has a special connection to our family.

East Cheshire Hospice, like many others, only receives 17% of its operating budget from government. Which means donations are essential. 

As well as general running costs, donations will go towards end of life improving services such as:-

£10 = A jacuzzi bath. This gives patients the chance to relax with bubbles, music and mood lighting.

£40 = An appointment in the in-house salon. Patients can have their hair done and other beauty treatments as a well-deserved treat.

£50 = Several complimentary therapy sessions. These include massage, reflexology, Reiki and acupuncture to help relieve stress and anxiety for patients and carers.

£85 = An Art Psychotherapy session. This is a powerful technique proven to help express emotions through the medium of art rather than in words.

£150 = Time with Physiotherapists. The aim to increase independence and improve quality of life.

£345 = One overnight stay in the inpatient ward. Our top priority is patients’ comfort and dignity.

Through September, I completed 13m, 15m, 17 and 19m runs. I'm still coughing and spluttering but I'm taking great care to be well rested and ready for race day and would love to raise a few pounds for a very worthy cause.

If you already sponsored me in March for the 500,000 steps campaign, you really don't need to for this. (Obviously, I can't stop you if you want to though).
