Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

The Revenge Reliability Run is in aid of Mind as it is personally very close to my heart. I lost a very close friend through suicide, and members of the team, close friends and family members have suffered from mental health issues (and indeed continue to need support.) There is still a taboo about talking about it, and that needs to change.

The plan is to drive a 1000 miles in a week (6th-14th August) in 'Revenge'  visiting iconic locations related to British engineering and places of interest. We'll be driving in 1970s fashion as an homage to the era (!) and Revenge's journey will be carbon offset.

There are Many Ways to Get involved and Support Mind and The Revenge Reliability Run

  1. Donate to Mind through JustGiving!
This is a charity event put on by a few friends to do something positive with their hobby.
  2. Come to the Run and Support it. Come and say hello at one of the locations and cheer us on - we'll need all the help we can get! We'll be collecting donations at every stop.
  3. Join the Reliability Run itself! Follow us for a few hours, a day or a few days and enjoy your classic car, custom or hot rod! Come and go as you please, but we will be looking for donations when you join!
  4. Buy some Merchandise - https://industryandsupply.com/revenge-reliability-run-2022/ All our profits to Mind
  5. Be a Business Sponsor - talk to us about having your business marketed through the Reliability Run

Revenge is a multi-award winning hot rod built by Nick Butler in 1976,  a famous designer, engineer and customiser from the 70s who is still working his magic today (in fact interviewed in Octane magazine this month!) It was in multiple magazines worldwide, at the Britsh Motor Show and appeared on Blue Peter, The Old Grey Whistle Test and The Multicoloured Swap Shop - and even a film. It was the subject of a vinyl picture disc and even had a dedicated workshop glamour calendar!

Probably most importantly, it was voted The Hot Rod of the Twentieth Century by the National Street Rod Association (NSRA) despite it barely having been seen for 30 years!

I spotted an advert in a Street Machine Magazine in 2019 with a picture of a car I was sure I recognised -  I had a poster of Revenge on my wall in the 1970s when I was a child, and it blew the minds of adults and children at the time.

Fast forward a year later and I had bought Revenge as a non-runner, having pulled it out of the barn where it had sat for the last 5 years. It had been restored, but never really run and unfortunately looked very sorry for itself, having been left to deteriorate again.

I spent a chunk of lockdown going through it to get it running and roadworthy again (which turned out to be a mammoth task) and also started to build an archive of the history of this icon.

With the intent of making sure Revenge gets used and can be seen again, and a desire to give something back with the hobby, The Revenge Reliability Run was born!
