Story
I joined hundreds of other brave skydivers on Saturday 6 August 2022 and took on One Giant Leap. I experienced the thrill of jumping from 15,000 feet and was free-falling for 60 seconds at over 120mph in a sponsored tandem skydive for Alzheimer's Society and in loving memory of my partner's mother - Maureen Donnison.
Your contribution will make a huge difference to people affected by dementia and enables Alzheimer's Society to continue their work. With each pound you donate you are helping face dementia head on and contributing towards a better life for people living with dementia. Any donations, no matter how small, are very gratefully received. Every little bit helps. Thank you for your support and taking on dementia.
Dementia is the UK's biggest killer. There are currently around 900,000 people with dementia in the UK. This is projected to rise to 1.6 million people by 2040. There are an estimated 57.4 million people living with dementia around the globe. It is estimated that this number will rise to 152.8 million by 2050. Every three minutes someone in the UK develops dementia. That's the equivalent of around 225,000 people every year.
Two thirds of the cost of dementia is paid by people with dementia and their families. Unpaid carers supporting someone with dementia save the UK economy £13.9 billion a year. But dementia won't win. Alzheimer's Society is the only UK charity that campaigns for change, funds research to find a cure and supports people living with dementia today.
By donating to One Giant Leap for Mother Maureen, you are helping us leap towards a dementia free future and help people affected by dementia. Once you donate, JustGiving will send your money directly to Alzheimer's Society. So it's the most efficient way to raise money, saving time and cutting costs for the charity. Let's take on dementia together!
