Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In September 2017 I received an NHS letter for a health check as I had reached the age of 40, even though I knew I had put on a few pounds over the years, I didn't realise how much I weighed, to my shock I was nearly 17 stone, with high cholesterol and a BMI of over 32. It was at this point I realised I needed to make some changes. I spent the whole of 2018 eating healthier and doing a LOT more exercise (running and cycling), and as anyone will know who has tried to diet, it is hard to give us sugary/unhealthy foods you love, and going out for run when your tired or the weather is crap. Thanks to help from friends and family by the end of 2018, I got my weight down to 11 stone 4 oz. I felt a lot healthier and fitter.
In 2019 I participated in a few local shorter distance running events but decided my aim was to run a marathon. A work colleague suggested I should enter for the London marathon, at first I was unsure as I had never run that far before but in the end I applied. Whilst my first application to MS was unsuccessful, my perseverance paid off, as I was able to take on my work colleague's application as he had to withdraw. It is because of him I am able to participate in the London marathon so I want to make sure I raise as much as possible as I am attending due to him and his support/encouragement to apply.
Why Multiple Sclerosis, because it has no cure, it is a debilitating condition that takes an able bodied person and attacks their nervous system to the point that they can become wheelchair bound. I have been fortunate enough that I have been able to turn myself into some who couldn't run (due to weight and lack of fitness) to someone who is attempting to run the London marathon. I want to take this opportunity to help people who are less fortunate than me.
