Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
You may or may not be aware that a month ago our son, Benjamin was admitted to Bristol Children’s hospital with Atypical Haemolytic Uremic Syndrome.
Within a 24 hr period Benji’s haemoglobin and platelet levels became dangerously low and his kidneys began to fail.
Benji’s treatment included several blood and platelet transfusions, dialysis and drug infusions, and the care he received was second to none.
Through the knowledge and care of the Drs and Nurses of Lighthouse Ward, Bristol Children’s Hospital, and the availability of ground breaking medicine, Benji is now recovering at home. We are yet to determine what the future holds for Benji, but the outlook remains bright.
Without the professionalism, dedication and care provided by all that have helped him, Benji could be in a very different place.
One of the key areas treatment provided for Benji was haemodialysis, cleaning his blood of toxins whilst his kidneys were unable to do so and in turn giving his kidneys a chance to start working again.
Lighthouse Ward, at this time, only have a single dedicated dialysis machine. I want to help to change this and raise some funds in aid of the Bristol Children’s Hospital Charity ‘The Grand Appeal’, to help purchase another machine for the ward; providing the opportunity to help more children like Benji.
To do this I’ll be taking part in 3x Half Ironman Triathlons throughout 2023; Roadford Lake middle distance, Cardiff Middle distance and IM Weymouth 70.3; a total of 210.9 miles of swim, bike, run in an attempt to raise as much as much as I can.
You can follow story throughout either through the updates on this page, Strava, or Instagram (richardmoore_trimarine), where I will share my Highs and lows on the way to helping this fantastic Hospital and the Lighthouse ward as much as possible.
I know these are trying time financially, but please do give what you can…… it’s for the kids!
