Richard's Dry till July/ , Couch to 5k challenge

Richard Sharples is raising money for Sheffield Young Carers

Run Sober Rich Run! · 9 January 2021

Sheffield Young Carers is an independent charity which has existed in Sheffield since 1997. We offer practical and emotional support to children and young people aged between 8 and 25 who live in Sheffield and provide a substantial amount of unpaid care to one or more members of their family.

Story

So almost 2 years ago I gave up drinking for 6 months to raise money for the Sheffield Archer project and to encourage myself to improve my health and fitness.  Including gift aid £1000 pounds was raised and my fitness improved massively.

I feel that now is the time to do it again. I've chosen Sheffield Young Carers as my charity as I am aware of many students both past and present who have been caring for relatives at a young age, and who I feel will need all the more support due to the effects of the pandemic.

I'm not just going to give up drinking, I want to be able to run. So here is my pledge:

1) I will not drink alcohol from Jan 9th to July 9th.

2) I will eat no more than 1 takeaway per calendar month from Jan 9th to July 9th.

3) I will also give up sweets and chocolate for the duration of the challenge.

4) Whilst I'm currently too heavy to start running without damaging my knees, I intend to train so that by July 9th I am able to run at least 5km.

5) I will give regular updates on my progress between now and July.

Any donations and support would be gratefully received. Thank you.
