Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. Donation through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure.
As many of you know Rob started “limping” in late 2013 and underwent lots of tests during the Spring and Summer of 2014 before being diagnosed with Motor neurone disease in September 2014.
Here below is Robs story,
Motor neurone disease (MND) is a fatal, rapidly progressive disease that can affect anyone at any time. It leaves people locked into their bodies, unable to walk, talk, move and eventually breathe.
There is no cure. Half of people with MND die within just two years of being diagnosed. “If there is one thing that MND teaches you, it’s that time is precious.” .
In the last 18 months I have spent every available moment with my family and friends. We’ve been on numerous “once in a lifetime” trips, taken hundreds of photos and created happy memories for our family and friends to remember
My family means the world to me and having our daughter doing fund raising, our middle son struggling to come to terms with it and our youngest son being oblivious to it, is a minefield of mental torment in addition to the physical condition.
So when Richard (Waggy) offered to do this bike ride and split the fund raising between Mary Stevens Hospice and Motor neurone disease I was delighted and very humbled because my friends and family are so massively important to my positivity, survival instinct and mental wellbeing. That is why you will see my motto “Not giving in, not giving up” on FB.
Research is ongoing and hopefully this will help towards it in order to understand what causes it and then begin to work on a cure or treatment.
More people are diagnosed with MND in this country every single day and they are about to embark on the most heart-wrenching and terrifying two years of their lives. They really need your help.
I will leave the logistics to Waggy but obviously donations are pretty crucial to this being a success so any and all support would be absolutely amazing.
Thank you Waggy and everyone who donates to either of these worthwhile causes!
A very humbled and proud Rob (Rocky!) Owen
