Story

What Will I Be Doing

Very soon, at the start of May, I will be travelling to Kenya, Africa. Here, I will spend 12 weeks working alongside a small group of other British volunteers, whilst intensively collaborating with the local workers and volunteers in Kenya. I will be living with a Kenyan family who are kind enough to host me in their own home through the duration of the venture so that i am not exploiting any resources or being inconsiderate.

By combining our knowledge, skills and efforts, a significant positive impact can be made within struggling communities. Jobs will be created and lives will be changed, enabling under-valued Kenyan entrepreneurs to realize their full potential and improve their families every day lives.

From this experience, lasting relationships will be forged and small-scale Kenyan businesses will flourish. The development of ideas and businesses is the first step in creating a brighter future for Kenya, and i want to be a part of making those ideas a reality.

However, your help is integral to helping me make the most of this opportunity.

Why I'm Doing This

Personally, i think it is an obligation, if not of a moral necessity, for me to utilize my position and infuse my skills and effort into improving the quality of the lives of less privileged and lucky people as myself.

Dreams are being ignored and education is being neglected. I believe it would be a shame not to grasp this opportunity with both hands, and make optimal use of my time and knowledge, by investing it in those who, ultimately, need it the most.

Funding

Before I leave, I need to fund-raise around £1000. As ICS is a comprehensively government funded scheme, all my flights, vaccinations etc. are paid for. However, i will still need to raise a small percentage of the overall funds to go towards the 12 week venture:

100% of the money donated will go towards the development of local, Kenyan businesses, as well as making sure the scheme can be continued in future so that other UK and overseas volunteers can take part and make a positive change in the world around them.

Afterword:

All donations received, big or small, would be hugely appreciated. I will make sure to keep everyone updated on how the project and fundraising is going, with photos. (If you are eligible please tick the 'GiftAid' option as this will automatically increase your donation by 25%, at no extra cost for you!)

Your help will contribute towards making an incomprehensible difference to people and places that are underestimated and overlooked by modern society. With a little bit of your help, a big difference can be made. Donations will be acknowledged and made public if desired.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and we hope that you can help in some way large or small.
