After my sister passed away me and my brothers were referred to Nelsons journey. Before this happened I had no idea who they were or what they did for bereaved children in Norfolk, but now? Thanks to them I was able to process the grief, work through how I felt and it’s true when they say they bring back smiles to bereaved children.

I truly believe without them I wouldn’t be who I am today. Nelsons journey offer 1:1 support, they hold an NJ club where you meet other children also processing their own grief and this group is what made a difference for me, I made friends, I had a safe space to talk about how I felt without worrying about what I said or who I upset, we even did regular activities such as making memory boxes, lighting candles, sharing stories about our loved ones to help us realise we can remember them in our own way. 

Nelsons journey need our support now more than ever, their usual fundraising activities haven’t been able to go ahead because of covid. Here’s some numbers to help you understand how crucial they are to Norfolk.

In 2019 895 children were referred to them, 704 received 1:1 therapeutic support, 144 went on the therapeutic weekend away, 852 calls were made to their helpline. 

It costs approximately £250 to send a child on a therapeutic weekend and I would absolutely love to give another bereaved child the chance to go on the trip I was lucky enough to go on. Anyone who knew me then should know what a difference that weekend made for me.
