Bupa Great South Run 2011 · 30 October 2011 ·

Hearing Dogs for Deaf People trains dogs to alert deaf people to important and life-saving sounds such as the smoke alarm, alarm clock, intruder alarms and baby monitors. These amazing dogs also help deaf people to leave loneliness behind by providing love, companionship and emotional support.

02/10/11: Four weeks to go! trying hard to do a couple of five mile runs per week but the old knees don't think it's a good idea. Just keep reminding myself it's for a good cause. Thanks to all who have sponsored me so far, trust me i'm working hard for it!

Completed my first ever 10k race. Finished the cross country route of the Amersham 10K in 57 minutes. Next event, the Wycombe 10k at the end of July.

With my Uncle John biting the bullet and signing up for the BUPA Great South Run which takes place on October 30th 2011, I have decided to join the team to hopefully get a little fitter now I'm at the ripe old age of 37, but more importantly support this good cause... Hearing Dogs for Deaf People. This is a charity that supported my Nan and had a positive impact on her quality of life providing a dog that offered companionship and also ensured she was safe.

My Nan's Hearing Dog, told her when someone was knocking on the door, that the telephone was ringing or the fire alarm had been activated, and much more. Please take a moment to view the link showing the great work this charity undertakes.

It would mean a lot if you would support me, and this wonderful Charity, by giving what you can. My personal target is £1,000.

£1,000 supports a new beginning helping acquiring a puppy or young dog and placing them with a volunteer socialiser.

So the aim is to do my little bit for this charity and raise as much money as possible. My goal is to finish on a time somewhere between my Uncle who seems to be playing the sympathy card by using his age and my cousin who is an ultra competitive sports nut who will be living for the moment he sprints past me into the distance.

Thank you for your support
