My name is Robert Ward, and I’m currently studying A levels at Pershore High School.

In 2006, when I was 6 years old, my mum was diagnosed with Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia. She was fortunate to be given Glivec; a new ‘wonder’ drug for this type of leukaemia. She suffered side effects though, particularly extreme fatigue, so my 3 younger brothers and I became young carers. 

Now, 11 years later, she is in ‘Treatment Free Remission’ which means that although the Leukaemia may return, she doesn’t have to take the drugs now.

I would like to fundraise for Cure Leukaemia, who fund research into new treatments such as Glivec, and plan to do this through shaving my head.

CL supports the internationally renowned Centre for Clinical Haematology in Birmingham and a network of specialist research nurses across the UK who administer often world first and potentially life-saving clinical trials to leukaemia patients who have exhausted standard treatments. In 2017, Cure Leukaemia is committed to raising an additional £1m to double the Centre's capacity for patients, world first trials & nurses.
