Greenland II · 28 February 2017

Pilgrim Bandits know that adversity, challenges and obstacles serve to strengthen the human spirit. But for some of those we support, just to smile or enjoy the company of others, is an almost insurmountable task. We endeavour to get them to believe in a life worth living again. Through Pilgrim Bandits they push to new limits. They help others. They inspire children and young people by working with schools and care centers. Some say that we are a charity, we say were a charitable force.

Story

Following my attempt to reach Sisimiut (Greenland) in March 2015 I have decided to return... this time 100% self sufficient... unsupported!

A lot of planning has gone into it and planning will continue.... but the decision has been made and is final.

Details of 'Operation Greenland II’:
  • Departure Date: 28th February 2017 (one way ticket booked)
  • Return Date: unknown (subject to weather condition)
  • Expected Temperature: -30C (wind chill -40C)
  • Distance: 102 miles / 160km
  • Duration: 4 days (one marathon per day)
  • Final Plan: Fully self-sufficient solo expedition… carrying a 50lbs bergen plus ultra-light pulk/sledge (max 100lbs)
  • Utilised technology will include 24/7 tracking/monitoring devices/software, man down alarm, satellite phone and chopper on ‘stand by’ for emergency evacuation (within 60min)
  • Fundraising for: Pilgrim Bandits Charity

Update:

Operation 'Greenland II' completed... there was a man on a mission... 105.8 miles on foot... solo/self sufficient/unsupported... -35C and nothing but ice and snow... solitude at its very best.. pulling a 150lbs pulk and carrying a 25lbs bergen... to raise funds for the charity of his choice.

Things i have seen and sensed and felt I shall never forget. The peace and tranquility and the beauty of the landscape and the indescribable 'sound of silence' have been mesmerising,

About the Pilgrim Bandits

Pilgrim Bandits know that adversity, challenges and obstacles  serve to strengthen the human spirit. But for some of those we support, just to smile or enjoy the company of others, is an almost insurmountable task.  We endeavour to get them to believe in a life worth living again. Through Pilgrim Bandits they push to new limits. They help others. They inspire children and young people by working with schools and care centres. They raise funds like other charities, and they also try to fund research to push  scientific and engineering advances into prosthetic limbs.
