Story
Thanks for visiting my page. As you may know, because I'm sure I've told everyone by now, a year ago I had a quadruple (none of this triple business for me!) heart by-pass and ancillary treatments. I have no doubt that without this, I wouldn't be here now. Anyway, as I was recovering, resplendent in surgical stockings and steel wire holding my sternum together, I planned to do something physical to celebrate still being alive. You know the sort of thing climbing Everest, swimming the channel etc. However, I don't like heights or the cold and only swim in warm, Mediterranean type waters. I decided, instead, to walk "The Way", 500 miles across Norther Spain. As I'm doing that anyway, I thought I might try a raise a couple of quid for the amazing work done by the BHF.
In the 1960s 1 in 2 people died of heart disease. Today, it is still 1 in 4 and it is the leading cause of death in the UK today. That number halved because of the work done by the BHF. We all know and possibly loved someone who died because of it. Anyway, the BHF is run entirely on charitable donations and does amazing research that helps discover treatments that keep so many of us alive. It's just such a worthy cause, enough said!
